APRIL 14th, 2016: CAL FIRE/BUTTE COUNTY FIRE AND CALIFORNIA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD HOLD WATER RESCUE TRAINING ON THERMALITO AFTERBAY
Butte County – CAL FIRE/Butte County Fire and the California Army National Guard will hold joint water rescue training exercises on Thursday, April 14TH at the Thermalito Afterbay near the Afterbay’s Larkin Road Launch ramp.
This special training will involve teams of water rescuers and helicopters from CAL FIRE, California Army National Guard, Sacramento Metro Fire and Butte County Sheriff’s Office and includes teams of CAL FIRE rescuers that will travel from throughout the state to participate in the advanced water rescue training.
The training exercise will include a simulated flood exercise. The training is designed to enhance the level of training for both rescuers and pilots and increase the interoperability between agencies. “While the simulated mission of this training is flood rescue and evacuations, the skills practiced here will be used in the countless all-risk incidents that our departments respond to every day”, stated Battalion Garrett Sjolund.
The Larkin Road Launch Ramp to the Thermalito Afterbay on the Oroville Wildlife Area will be closed to the public for the duration of the training.
The California Highway Patrol, Department of Water Resources and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife will also assist in the training exercises.
